Applications

The machines our bearings live inside

Every rotating machine is a set of bearing choices. Below are the twelve applications we specify for most often — with the exact bearing families that go inside, and why.

Electric Motors

Electric Motors

Deep groove ball bearings on both shaft ends.

Almost every electric motor uses two deep groove ball bearings — a locating bearing at the drive end and a floating one at the fan end. Low friction, low noise and long grease life are the defining specs; C3 clearance is standard for thermal expansion.

Pumps

Pumps

Angular contact and deep groove pairs handle axial thrust.

Centrifugal and screw pumps combine radial and axial hydraulic loads. Back-to-back angular contact pairs, or a deep groove plus a double-row angular contact, take the impeller thrust; separate bearings support the drive-end coupling.

Compressors

Compressors

Cylindrical + angular contact bearings for screw & recip.

Screw compressors carry huge axial loads from gas pressure on the rotors — usually met with cylindrical rollers for radial location and four-point-contact or angular contact pairs for thrust. Reciprocating units use plain and needle bearings on crankpins.

Conveyors

Conveyors

Pillow blocks and mounted units at every drive & tail pulley.

Every idler, drive pulley, tail pulley, snub pulley and take-up pulley on a belt conveyor rides on mounted bearings. Sealed spherical rollers in cast-iron plummer blocks are the workhorse for heavy overland belts; simple UCP units cover light-duty conveyors.

Gearboxes

Gearboxes

Tapered and cylindrical rollers on every pinion and output shaft.

Helical, bevel and worm gearboxes generate combined radial and axial loads on every shaft. Tapered rollers set in adjustable pairs on pinions; cylindrical rollers on output shafts where axial location is elsewhere; deep grooves for lightly loaded input shafts.

Crushers

Crushers

Sealed spherical roller bearings absorb shock and misalignment.

Jaw, cone and impact crushers subject bearings to violent, non-uniform loads. Sealed spherical roller bearings on the eccentric shaft carry the crushing load; heavy taper rollers position the head assembly.

Rolling Mills

Rolling Mills

Four-row taper and cylindrical rollers inside every roll neck.

Hot and cold rolling mills mount work rolls and back-up rolls on multi-row taper roller bearings that carry the vertical rolling load, plus separate thrust bearings to react horizontal forces. Fits, seals and lubrication are engineered per stand.

Wind Turbines

Wind Turbines

Main shaft, gearbox and yaw/pitch — bearings everywhere.

A modern turbine uses spherical or CARB roller main shaft bearings, cylindrical + taper rollers throughout the gearbox, and large slewing rings for yaw and pitch. Long life, low maintenance and cold-climate grease specs are essential.

Farm Machinery

Farm Machinery

Sealed agricultural inserts and pillow blocks through every drive.

Combine harvesters, balers, seeders and ploughs use dozens of sealed agricultural ball bearings on straw walkers, feeder chains, augers and cutter bars — heavily sealed against dust and chaff, greased for a full season.

Industrial Fans

Industrial Fans

Spherical rollers or heavy pillow blocks on the fan shaft.

Large ID fans, FD fans and cooling tower fans have long shafts, high inertia and unbalance from process build-up. Spherical roller bearings in split plummer blocks handle the misalignment and thermal expansion, with oil or grease lubrication.

Robotics

Robotics

Cross-roller, thin section and harmonic drive bearings.

Robotic arm joints depend on cross-roller bearings for combined loads in a compact envelope, thin-section deep-groove bearings for weight-critical wrist axes, and specialty bearings inside strain-wave (harmonic) gear reducers.

CNC Machines

CNC Machines

Super-precision angular contact spindle bearings.

CNC machining centres and grinders demand micron-level spindle runout at high RPM. Matched sets of super-precision angular contact bearings — usually greased-for-life, sometimes oil-air lubricated — set the machine's ultimate accuracy.
